==> If you have a real human hair wig:
The first thing that you’ll need to do is gather your supplies.
- You can start by washing your wig to remove any chemicals in the hair. This will also help to remove any build-up that could prevent the ombre hair color from taking evenly.
- Gloves and a place to work. A place you either can accept getting dirty, or use covers to protect surfaces from the coloring.
- You’ll need a wig, either a dark hair wig or a blond wig. This will depend on which look you are going for.
- Some hair color, and some shampoo and conditioner. Once you have everything that you need, it’s time to get started.
Tips for making ombre on a blond wig:
The best way to color your human hair wig from the bottom up is using a color bath, as it is called.
This means that you will have a big/medium container filled with water a little below halfway, and then you will pure the color in there.
- Then you take your wig and dip it in, thinking about how high up you want to start your ombre color.
- The first time you dip it in for about 1 min depending on how “dark” you want the color at this height.
- Then you take it a notch up and hold it there for a little longer, so let’s say for about 4 min.
- And then you again take it up a notch again and hold it there for an even longer period, so let’s say 6 min.
This technique will give you an ombre look, where the ends are dark and then it gradually gets lighter going up. – WATCH the video tutorials to see what we mean.
Tips on How to Give dark hair wigs Lighter ends – Ombre style:
If you have a dark hair wig and you want to make it lighter at the bottom, then you have to bleach it, and this can be a hard task and a messy one at that.
We have added some video tutorials about this.
The aftermath of the coloring and/or bleaching of your wig:
Wash your wig with shampoo and conditioner. Do this so you get the color out of the hair, and it doesn’t stain your clothes later on.
Finally, style your wig as desired. Congratulations – you’ve successfully ombre your own human hair wig!

The Dirty Tricks on How to ombre your own wigs when you have a synthetic wig

Now making an ombre synthetic wig, this process is hard because we are working with synthetic fibers and not real human hair.
Synthetic hair can’t be colored or bleached, so what do you do? We have to reverse how we do it and comply with working with synthetic fibers.

The only way to do this is with Blond synthetic wigs. You might think, but what if I want to have dark hair up top and lighter colors at the bottom? Well, there is a way, as we will teach you about. And again watch the video tutorials added to this section of the blog.
The owner of Parykshop-news.com is also the owner of Parykshop.com. Her name is Karima Lachtane, and she loves making ombre synthetic wigs. Below, you will see some of her results. But she admits this is not for the light-hearted, because it takes extra effort, as she will now explain.
So let us get into the nitty gritty of creating an ombre synthetic wig.
How to have a blond synthetic wig and give it darker ends:
- We have to have a blond synthetic wig.
- Heat-protecting Gloves
- A reasonable size pot (Yes, you heard me; we are going to cook the color into the fibers).
- And a place to work at. And here we have to be careful, because these colors will stain forever, so you need to cover up everything you do not want to be stained by the color.
- You will also need synthetic fiber colors, and I have only found Rit Dye that really works (https://www.ritdye.com/type/dyemore-for-synthetics/) Only these will work. Let us know if you know of any other synthetic dye that works.
We will use the water method as with the human hair, but this time the water has to be boiling hot or at least very hot. (And do remember to only do this with Heat resistance synthetic wigs, or your wig will melt. If you are not sure if your wig is heat resistant, then you can easily find out. Take a couple of hairs and either using a hot tool of some sort ((not flames)) to see if the hair crumbles. if it crumbles, then it is not heat resistant, and if it doesn’t crumble, then it is heat resistant).
You take your put and place it on the cooking stove. Then fill it halfway up with water and pour in the color that you want, and let it cook until it is almost boiling, and I mean hot. (a note from my personal experience: I started with a light color. Meaning I poured some color into the put, and as I took the hair up a notch. I would add more color, making it darker and darker, as you can see in the result pictures below). The longer you leave the hair in the pot, the darker it will become of that specific color you have chosen. Again, practice makes perfect!
When you have finished, then you will take it out and place it somewhere on a cover to let the color sink into the fibers. After 5 minutes, then you will wash the wig under cold water and rinse off as much of the coloring as you can. Wash it more than twice to get the colors out, and in the last wash add a touch of your favorite fabric softener (only a small amount). This will make the fibers softer and give the sent that you like.
As you can see, this is not a minor task.
Now, can it get any harder than this? Oh yes, it can!
How to get darker roots and lighter ends on a synthetic wig:
Again, we can’t bleach a synthetic wig, so what do we do when we want the darker roots and the lighter ends? We simply reverse the method by which we color our blond wig.
Here you have to think about what color roots you want, black, brown, or whatever?
We still need to use the same method as before using boiling water, but now we are doing to color the roots and the cap of our wig.
So we have our cooking water and the color we want in it. Now we have to take our synthetic wig and flip it so you are standing with the hair ends in your hand and dipping the cap inside the pot. This takes a bit of strategic thinking on your part. Consider how you want to color your wig. Do you want to have a gradient going from very dark roots to lighter and lighter and then going to blond?
Here I would suggest you follow the pattern described above, meaning you dip the wig cap in until the area where you want the gradient to stop and be blond. You leave it there a bit and then take it up a notch, pour more color in, and leave the wig in for a little while longer than before. Then you again take it up a notch again and pour more color in and again leave it in for a while longer.
(BUT: a tip if you want black roots, but not a gray gradient, then use brownish or whatever other color you like to begin with. If you use the black color, to begin with, then the gradient will be light gray and go from gray to blond. I hope this makes any sense. With wanting black roots, you will only pour the black color in when you are coloring the roots – again I hope this makes sense, or you’re always welcome to ask further about this process.)
- Then you will again follow the steps above. Let the hair sit awhile on a cover and then wash it under cold water. Rinse it many times because the color is hard to get out. If you wear your wig with white clothing on a rainy day, it will transfer to your clothes and stain them, so remember to rinse it even if the water seems clear.
This is a very challenging process.
